Vacation/ Illness/ Other Absence

-The Residency has policies and procedures governing leaves of absence from the program. Residents are expected to perform their duties as resident physicians for a minimum period of eleven months each calendar year. Therefore, absence from the program for vacation, illness, personal business, leave, etc. must not exceed a combined total of one (1) month per academic year.

-Absence from the residency, in excess of one month within the academic year(PGY1, PGY2 or PGY3 year) must be made up before the resident advances to the next training level, and the time must be added to the projected date of completion of the required 36 months of training.

-The complete policy is available in the program residents manual.

 

Paid Holidays:

New Year's Day/ Easter  Sunday/ Memorial Day/ Independence Day/ Labor Day/ Thanksgiving Day/ Christmas Day

If a resident is on-call and works one of these holidays, he/she will be entitled to an equal amount of compensation time at a time of his/her choosing.

Insurance

Malpractice Insurance

Health and Hospital Insurance (as per UHC Associate Handbook)

Term Life Insurance in the amount of the annual stipend

Disability Insurance

Sick Leave: One day accrues for each month worked at UHC up to a maximum of 45 days.

Meals

Residents are entitled to free meals while on duty at the hospital cafeteria.

Lab Coats

The resident will receive three lab coats with the his/her name embroidered onto the coats.

Call Rooms

Convenient call rooms with needed amenities are provided in the hospital for residents who are on call inhouse.  

Moving Expenses:

The resident may be reimbursed up to $2,000.00 for moving expenses on a one-time basis for relocation purposes.

Medical Education & Textbooks

Each resident will be entitled to $1,000.00 per year for Continuing Medical Education (CME), Conferences or books. Non-utilized money will not be carried over to the next year. One additional week off is granted for CME.

Parking

The hospital provides free parking to the residents in the lot located next to the Family Medicine Center.
